Clothing recommendation
What to wear on Everest Three High Passes Circuit — included in the downloadable PDF.
- Layer system: merino base + insulating midlayer + windproof shell. Avoid cotton entirely.
- Pack 2 base-layer tops and 2 pairs of trekking socks; wash and rotate on rest days.
- Sun is intense at altitude — long sleeves, brimmed hat, buff, SPF 50 and UV-rated eyewear.
- Above 4,000 m expect night temperatures of -10 °C to -20 °C: a down jacket and thermal leggings are non-negotiable.
- Carry liner gloves plus insulated over-mitts; fingers are the first thing to go on pass mornings.
- Bring a -20 °C rated sleeping bag with a liner, and an insulated bottle to stop water freezing overnight.
- Double or B2-rated boots recommended for pre-dawn starts on snow and ice.
- On a 20-day trip renting the heavy insulation is usually cheaper than buying — check the buy vs rent widget on the trek page.
